Bread Financial® again named to Newsweek’s America’s Most Responsible Companies list
For the second straight year, Bread Financial™ has been recognized for its ethical and responsible business operations and named to Newsweek’s America’s Most Responsible Companies list. Six hundred of the largest U.S. public companies made the 2024 list, with Bread Financial coming in at No. 224 overall (up from No. 369 in 2023) and No. 19 in the financial category (up from No. 28 last year). More than 2,000 U.S. public companies were assessed based on their prioritization of environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices and commitment to corporate responsibility.
"As a purpose-driven financial services company, our commitment to operating responsibly and with integrity is essential to our success,” said Dana Beckman, chief sustainability officer, Bread Financial. “This is a prestigious recognition and reflective of our continued efforts to drive accountability throughout the organization and build and maintain trust for those we serve through responsible and sustainable business practices.”

In the past year, Bread Financial has continued to advance its ESG strategy by embedding ESG principles throughout its business strategy and operations, developing deeper cross-functional collaboration and measuring its efforts. With a strong foundation and clear direction, the company also introduced new programs and initiatives designed to advance its long-term ESG, financial and reputational goals.
2023 accomplishments include:
- Launching a new financial education initiative and website
- Planting nearly 200,000 trees globally in partnership with The Nature Conservancy
- Investing $8 million in the community
- Receiving the Ragan Communications Workplace Wellness award for its holistic approach to associate wellbeing
In partnership with Statista, Newsweek’s list is based on a holistic view of corporate responsibility that considers all three pillars of ESG. To determine the ranking, the top 2,000 U.S. public companies by revenue, as well as bank and insurance companies with 50+ billion in assets, were evaluated using both quantitative data, based on more than 30 KPIs, and a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) reputation survey of U.S. residents. In total, 600 companies were identified as one of “America’s Most Responsible Companies.”
