Company recognized by USA Today for its reduction in greenhouse gas emissions

Bread Financial™, a tech-forward financial services company providing payment, saving and lending solutions, today announced it has been included on USA Today's America’s Climate Leaders 2024 list for its reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, the primary driver of climate change, between 2020 and 2022.

According to USA Today calculations, Bread Financial successfully reduced its core emissions year-over-year by 26.3% to rank first among Ohio financial services companies and second in the state overall. In recent years, climate change has led to rising global temperatures resulting in melting ice caps, rising sea levels and more frequent severe weather events such as hurricanes, droughts and floods.

2024 marks the second year that Bread Financial has been named a climate leader by USA Today after being included on last year’s inaugural list. As outlined in the company’s 2023 TCFD Report and 2023 Sustainability Report, key factors contributing to the reduction in emissions include facility improvements and optimization, investments in renewable energy sources, use of sustainable plastics and supplier engagement.

“To limit the negative consequences of climate change, governments, businesses and individuals must take urgent action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” said Dana Beckman, vice president and chief sustainability officer, Bread Financial.  “We will continue to demonstrate our commitment to reduce our carbon footprint by prioritizing and integrating environmentally responsible practices throughout the organization and continually evaluate and improve our policies, practices and reporting.”

To determine the top 450 companies, USA Today, in partnership with market research firm Statista, Inc., evaluated 2,000 U.S. companies with 2022 revenues of more than $50 million on criteria such as emission intensity, annualized reductions in emission intensity and carbon disclosure ranking.
