Hope in hardship: how Bread Financial® and the Red Cross help communities rebuild

In times of need and disaster, every second counts. The way a community rallies together and each person steps up makes a difference in defining these life-changing moments. For more than 25 years, Bread Financial® has maintained its partnership with the Red Cross to support their continued service to customers and communities in need during critical times.
Most recently, Bread Financial reaffirmed its annual support for the Red Cross with a $500,000 contribution to the Annual Disaster Giving Program (ADGP), which helps to power reliable disaster response infrastructure that enables the Red Cross to act quickly and efficiently for impacted communities across the country.

By providing shelter, food, medical supplies and other necessities, the Red Cross can better help families whose homes are damaged by natural disasters. When family members are injured by debris and their homes destroyed, the ADGP helps cover the cost of hospital care and provides temporary housing until homes can be rebuilt.
"We’re honored to support the Red Cross and its Annual Disaster Giving Program, which helped more than 53,000 households just last year,” said Dana Beckman, vice president and chief sustainability officer at Bread Financial. “This gift supports our shared interest to provide help to those in need and find long-term solutions to strengthen our communities and protect our planet."
In addition to disaster relief, the Red Cross also provides nearly 40% of the nation’s blood, supplying hospitals and clinics across the county, and they rely heavily on volunteers and corporate partners, like Bread Financial. Since 1999, Bread Financial has hosted 110 blood drives with associates donating 3,043 units.
Malaysy Spriggs, senior analyst in customer content operations, emphasized the importance of company blood drives after pre-surgery bloodwork revealed she had a low red blood cell count that required an emergency and lifesaving transfusion.

“People often think one pint of blood is enough for one person, but it really isn't,” said Malaysy. “It took four units from four people to effectively raise my red blood cell levels. Giving blood is a selfless act that saves lives, and I want to thank the Red Cross and its supporters, including my Bread Financial family, for prioritizing blood donation.”
From blood drives to financial support for unexpected disasters, Bread Financial’s longstanding partnership with the Red Cross has allowed the company to show up for its associates, customers and communities when they need it most.

“Our partnership with Bread Financial has helped us to support thousands of individuals affected by disasters,” said a Red Cross representative. “Having Bread Financial by our side means we can stand with survivors and their communities as they begin to recover, while also ensuring we have the tools and resources to be prepared for what’s next.”
